| Two different Darwin ppm's, different lettering. Showing water-buffalo which were imported from S_E Asia to work in the boggy conditions in Darwin's wet season. Some escaped/were let go and they became a pest, digging up the water-holes to wallow and they also spread T.B. ( tuberculousis) to the herds of cattle. A long and difficult program was undertaken to remove them from the Territory. Darwin is the capital city of the Northern territory which has a low population but is mineral rich. with uranium, gold, etc. It was formerly run by South Australia. |

| Little Burke St. is the Chinese section of Melbourne. Showing the Chinese Dragon. The area has a rich history of Chinese restaurants and Chines traders bringing in goods from all over Asia. used to be frequently raided by police for illegal gambling and opium smoking but has cleaned up its act in the last 100+ years. Scene of colorful Chinese New Year celebrations with a street parade and lots of fire-crackers. Has been in existence since the early days of Melbourne, begun by Chinese coming to the goldfields in the 1850's. They quickly found that trading was better than gold-prospecting which could be a hit or miss occupation and many became very rich. In the early days they were treated very poorly and their being in Australia led to the White Australia policy. The policy lasted until the Viet-Nam war, when Vietnamese,Cambodian,Loa and Burmese immigrants(refugees) were allowed.
