Grrr... got a nasty blue screen on my notebook just now and won't reboot affraid

Was able to get into the bios and am running a check on the system. I HATE it when this happens.

The nasty thing is, all my work on my stamp collection is on there

I've got to say, since my first computer in 1986, a TRS-80 Model IV, I've never had a hard drive crash, never had a blue screen of death, never a catastrophic data loss. The worst thing I've encountered, so far, is with my last computer before this current one, I think the power supply was going south. In the middle of a session it would spontaneously combust reboot. I got a new system and transferred everything, and then deep-6'd it before anything major happened. From what I've read, it is inevitable; it WILL happen one day. So far, though, I've been lucky. Very Happy

Well it is still not rebooting and it appears the hard drive has some corruption. NOT a happy camper right now

Thank god I still have the PC as well as my back-up notebook. Guess I am going to have to take it into the shop and see what they can do with it.

Funny, I was considering a new one in the fall.

Well, it is pretty much official. I have a new large paperweight. Will be taking it in to Best Buy in the next few days and will see if they can recover the data from the hard drive. All I can do no Sad

That is a huge drag man, I feel for ya. That happened to me about 7 years ago and I wasn`t able to recover anything. I really hope you have better luck than I did.

I use a Dell Laptop, it has had a few weird moments, but overall it is a good laptop. I have had the typical issues with installing other hardware and software, but that is to be expected a bit with a PC. I am used to these little hang-ups at this point, and don`t waste too much time working them out usually.

I got Little Red a Mac this past Christmas, and I must say that I am a bit envious, and sneak on it between the hours of 4-5am with my morning coffee. I am still getting used to it, so it seems unfamiliar, but I really like that thing, everything just works, straight away, no hassles.

Fingers crossed for ya, cheers

Well as of right now I am recreating some of what I had on the notebook to the PC and will be going from there.

Look at it this way... I get to start over with my Stamp Inventory program set up and customization Laughing

One thing this has forced me to do is kickstart my butt into gear getting MS office reinstalled onto the PC

Okay, where's that steam valve . . .

It must be behind this wall.

Man, I've been on an austerity program the last couple of paydays, saving my mad money, holding back on stamp purchases, so I could buy a nice large country lot, or splurge on an expensive stamp (like that Algeria 1+9 we saw in another thread).

So what happens? I go out this morning and find my driver's door window has fallen down into the door; I need a new window regulator. All it will cost is $263.

$263.

I don't have to tell any of you what I could have made better use of with $263.

Bear, how's your plumbing, now? Very Happy

Well, handed the notebook over to the other half on the weekend and was able to switch out a drive so now have an older drive on there that works. The locked up drive was only corrupted and was able to recover most of the data on there including the stamp collection data

Breathing a little easier right now.
