| A different twist to say the least. Bright, colorful, philatelic gems that little doubt have a good story behind them. |

| I think that the goods for the train were pre-ordered. I think it may have even carried several tankers of water. |

| When my sister lived in Dampier in the PIlbara (W.A)they ordered milk, meat, dry goods, frozen vegies for a month at a time. They were all shipped up from Perth (Capital of W.A.) by road-train. [A road train is a prime-mover followed by 3-4 trailers.] It took 3-4 days to make the journey of several thousand kilometres.
A green grocer used to come up from Carnarvon with fresh fruit and vegies once a week but you had to be quick or they were all sold.
Today, the nearby town of Karratha has a shopping centre just like any big town or city with supermarkets and specialty shops.. |

| More from the auction hoard. The Ghan. The Ghan is a train route which ran from Port Augusta(S.A.) to Alice Springs (N.T). It got its name from the Afghan camel drivers who built the original line. Camels hauled the steel and sleepers to build the line. The original line closed due to lack of traffic and the cost of repairing the many bridges and raised sections of the track. A new line has been built which is extended to Darwin the capital of the Northern territory. It is now a ritzy train and takes several days to tranverse the country N to S. One for our US friends, Colombus, Ohio. |

| At the GOMC meeting yesterday, I took along my Phoenix auctions winnings. Everyone had a look through them. Then Philly (GOMC 3) produced his train collection which I looked through with envy. He had several of the items I've shown but with the addition of Cinderellas which add to their rarity and value.
Gees, I just hate him at times!!!!!!!!!!!! |
