A couple of oldies for the youngsters....

Some KGV, I bought a while ago. The 1/4d is a small watermark, perf 14 punctured OS. Geln said it was Kosher. Cancelled CTO Melbourne- probably from a Specimen pack.

Victoria pm. 1875 from Sandhurst (BN 4)- also called Bendigo.. One of the early goldfields of the 1850's.. Situated in central Victoria it is one of the main towns in what was called the 'Golden Triangle', towns which include Bendigo, Ballaarat, Castlemaine. Bendigo didn't have a butterfly cancel and had a barred oval (BO 5) P.O. opened in 1852 as Sandhurst, became Bendigo from 1891.

Most of my father's family was born at Huntly a nearby town. My first day at school was at Big Hill. In the 1950's it was miles from Bendigo proper but today it is a suburb, thanks to Urban sprawl. I don't know if I was registered there, as mu uncle was the Headmaster of the Big Hill school. The school had its own residence and a large pine plantation.

During the holidays, my sisters and I would go into the plantation and collect pine-cones to store for the winter heating of the school.. We had to careful as there were still scrapes and a few mine-shafts from previous gold diggings. They were a godsent for my uncle, as he could empty the night soil into them from the pans which were the school and house toilets. I used to love climbing the pine tree and would finish up, 60-70 (20-25metres)feet in the air.

I tend to agree with you on both counts, Bear. Bill should write a book illustrated with stamps and other ephemera. He would have no problem selling it, especially to collectors.

One thing that Australia Post does seem to get right are FDC's ...they are usually pretty attractive items. But I get the feeling that they are held with some scorn by dedicated philatelists...not sure why.

Nah, I jump from one tree to another and rarely finish anything. Snippets along the way just add to the suspense.

These are commonly know as 'Short Stories', many famous writers do this...

Hi there!

I got a 2.6kg parcel in the mail from Australia today, sent to me on August 30 and was dropped off @themothership just after lunch.

Here are the stamps that were used to pay the shipping cost: Very Happy Cool
