Here is a scan of a stamp to commence this new thread.

Transvaal 1904-09 5s. (five shillings) printed in black and purple on yellow paper. The paper of this stamp is watermarked multiple crown CA, perforation 14. It is listed in Stanley Gibbons' Commonwealth and British Empire Stamps 1840-1970 (2011 edition) catalogue as SG 270, and priced at £25.

What was the method of printing used for this stamp? Was it a surface or relief printing method ?

This stamp was printed using the typographic also known as letterpress method.

that is a wonderful example!!

now i was recently reminded that i needed to add KEVII to my GB collection... i have been far to lazy (busy ) to look up more info about his stamps... this will be a great thread to learn form .... thank you for starting it....

now with Specimen over print am i correct that they could not be used for postage?
