I'm the same way, Tom. I've found rather than deciding what to collect then going get it is one approach but for me it seems the costlier approach... instead I do things like buy a large lot or mixture (like the boxes Bear is selling) and let the mixture determine what I'm collecting.
Topical collections are the same way. I have a lot of US duplication and am still in the process of making topical collections from my US stock/dupes - some of the subjects that I've had a lot of luck with dupes are, "Native Americans", "Rifles, Muskets, Pistols, Cannons, Bows & Arrows", "International Treaties & Agreements", "Associations & Organizations", "Women on U.S. Stamps", "New Mexico", "Texas", "Virginia", "Louisiana", "American Revolution & Bicentennial", "Baseball", "Old Glory - The U.S. Flag on Definitive Stamps", "National Parks", "Chris Calle Engraved Stamps" and "Nondenominated U.S. Postage". I still have lots of dupes remaining (and another 5000+ to sort) and also considering something along the line of, "America at War" or "Americans in Uniform" or something of the sort. |

| BP, you guyz are lucky that you can buy lots in such prices, but here there's no such concept, so i usually buy WW packs on 100-500 and that's how i keep building my world wide collection, but i have priorities like top most is Pakistan (homeland) then comes a list of 7 countires are 2 most wanted (china, India, Iran, Afghanistan these are neighboring countries and with them US, UK, and Australia) US: becuase you guyz show so many beautiful stamps (i couldn't resist ) UK: they always have aesthetically most appealing stamps. AUS: coz i have a small catalogue, so easy to keep in track. |

| 1) I collect the United States New and Used, because it is also my home land. 2) Russia because of a 1961 set of fairy tales, then I fell in love with the rest of there's. 3) Cuba from a couple of fish stamps, and the fact the US is now allowed to have used ones, not mints. Like the world will come to a halt If we do. 4) Vietnam from a cheep lot. 5) Australia, due to a large number of them 6) then the rest of the world at the moment. I am sure another country will rise from the lot to be added to the above list.
Just learning about each country is great. AamerJamal I will take even more pleasure from Pakistan be cause I now have a friend from there. |
