| Here is what Wikipedia says:
"The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) is the postal agency of the United Nations. It issues postage stamps and postal stationery, denominated in United States dollars for the United Nations offices in New York, in Swiss francs for the offices in Geneva and in euros (formerly schillings) for the offices in Vienna. Postage rates charged are identical to those of the host nation.
Only United Nations stamps in the appropriate currency may be used at a given United Nations office. In practice, however, most UN agencies use meters, and the stamps are most often used by tourists and collectors. Since the stamps may not be used outside the UN offices, they may be purchased in bulk on the secondary market as discount postage at well below face value.[citation needed]
On September 4, 2007, the UNPA posted on its Web page new rules limiting the mailings it will accept. Express Mail and Priority Mail are no longer available to the public, and mailings from the public are limited to 100 pieces. The UNPA stated that the reason for this is that it was not established to provide all postal services, and that its primary function was to issue stamps for philatelic purposes."
Nevertheless, I think that some letters get sent out from the UN with country-of-origin stamps rather than UN stamps. |

| Greetings Fellow Boarders . It's interesting how this thread evolved into a discussion about United Nation stamps. . The Good Lord rest my late father-in-laws soul. He was a sucker for anything that came in the mail, or found on the back of a magazine, advertising a "limited collector's edition." He was also a tad absent-minded. . Does anyone want to buy two "special limited offer collector items" Vol. One - 1980 United Nation Flag Stamps? Each volume contains twelve first day issue stamps on a specially designed cachet that includes my father-in-law's (rest his soul) name and address. I'll throw in one Vol. Two, plus a cracked Official NASCAR Dale Earnhardt Junior Commemorative Collector's Plate absolutely free. All you pay is shipping and handling.* . Act quickly, 'cause this offer isn't going to last. . Respectfully,
Gordon Lee
* Offer good only where not prohibited by law and if the offeror does not have his fingers crossed. |

| traveling back to Germany here...
decided i really am having a hard time with sorting into a stock book sooo in an effort to accommodate my impatience and get this album moving along i cut up the album pages and placed them into my stock pages so i can use both... i now have a bag of stamps from this area and after i get the last few pages done i am going to start identification and placement.
if this helps get things moving along this may be the way i get my Canada album moving as well..
if i get a few things moving here later this evening i will scan in a few pages with stamps in place!!
off to cook up some dinner _________________ Happy Stamping!! Bear |

| OK, 33 cents and I'm also willing to pay postage!!!!
PS: If you are also interested in looking for plate flaws, etc. the German collectors have a nice handbook on Germania (850 pages) for a mere 100 Euros. (and you thought American and GB collectors are a bit overly obsessive/ compulsive about their stamps?)

100 euros? Eee-YOUCH! I'd love to have a look at that info, but at that price, I'm afraid it'll have to remain a mystery for awhile.
Still, if anyone knows of any reasonable handbooks on German stamps, I'd love to know about them... I especially like hunting for flyspeck varieties in common, low-cost stamps, but can rarely find the info. I have a Michel Germany catalog, which helps, but since I can't read German it is a bit of a pain.
