| Albeit casually I've searched for other sources of unique postmarks to no avail. That I've found Linn's appears to have the best listing.
If you or anyone else stumbles across a good list source of available commemorative postmarks by all means post it up! |

| Oh... these went out in the mail this morning and should post this afternoon so with a little luck I'll see the first of them arrive in my mailbox by late this week or early next. |

| Linn's stamp magazine has a weekly article titled, "Postmark Pursuit" and in the article they give a dozen or more descriptions of commemorative postmarks available for only a limited time. You don't actually see what the postmarks look like but get a brief description. The cachets I made kind of as an after thought and then sent the cachets to the post offices offering the cancels you see. There's a certain address that gets the covers to the right post office and they mark them and mail them back to you.
This is my first time doing this and I don't have any real plan or rhyme or reasoning to what I'm collecting here but I do know that a person could build a pretty neat collection of these commemorative postmarks in not much time at all.
I did a test mailing of five early last week to see what they would look like. Personally, I'm thrilled with the first two. I do need to learn to coordinate the cachets with some more appropriate stamps but then again I could keep using those same Forever flag stamps over and over again.
Who knows... these are the first two I've gotten back and if others like them I'll start to share some addresses and even make the cachets available in MS-Word format if anyone else wants to pursue some postmarks. |

| Greetings Mr. bengalpaws . I don't know if you planned it or not, but with the Witches of Oz cachet, you got all three of them; West, East and North. Congrats! . (Now if only you could of gotten that Southern witch on there. That would have really been something.) . Respectfully,
Gordon Lee |

| Actually, Gordon Lee, I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it! Thanks for pointing it out!
The Wizard of Oz is a special movie to me and my family. My mother NEVER missed a showing of the movie and each of us must know the movie line by line. So much did she love that movie that when my dear, dear mother died we played "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" at her funeral. To this day any mention of the movie or anything about it brings back very fond memories of my mom. |

| On the one hand I agree with you, Aamer, and on the other hand I'm not surprised. A bit more flair in the postmark would have been nice to say the least. However, given the subject matter (Naval postmark, fleet week) the postmark is what one might expect... it's a typical ship's postmark. Name and hull number of ship, date and not much more - very basic.
Still I really like the four I've received back so far and I'm thinking this is a great way to build a decent postmark collection. I'm also gathering all US definitive stamps with the US flag on them for a possible future study collection. The flag study collection (and there's LOTS of definitive stamps with the flag) combined with a great variety of cool postmarks using just definitive stamps with flags might be pretty cool... and large! LoL |

| This final cachet took 3 weeks and a day to return to me. I'm thinking this is the kind of collection that comes slowly and a little additional patience may be required. If I recall correctly I have twelve more of these out for postmarking and three for Gordon Lee so just have to see how long it takes for those to come back my way. I've been collecting definitive stamps with the U.S. flag on them in as many varieties as possible. I'm starting to think collecting these postmarks on homemade cachets (figure I'll eventually get a little better at them) and use only US flag on definitive stamps to spice up the collection. Either way I think this is a much cool postmark and I look forward to seeing what else lands in my mailbox in the coming weeks! |

| Those are some nice covers. During Christmas I sent some off to the North Pole, Alaska. I made one for myself, wife and two kids. I thought they would be more than just the CDS, but its still great to get them back. |
