| Ok folks sorry i did not wrap this up yesterday....
here is the final determination...
Art is art and stamps are art. any images related to this topic are permitted.
this said i would suggest a short "images may be disturbing to some viewers" on topics with images of war or nudity (German Swastika has upset a number of viewers over the last year)...
that said a suggestion is not a requirement. we are mature enough to talk bout the human form without being childish and even the youngsters who DO join us (yes we have a few even if they dont post) typically are collectors with some level of maturity.
as a person responsible for your own viewing if you find that a topic may be a bit much for you or others looking on then please feel free to close that thread and read others. with 16996 posts making up 1179 topics i am certain you can find something to read and comment on.
at the risk of sounding like an insufferable jerk the other option unfortunately is to find another place to post. _________________ Happy Stamping!! Bear |

| We could have a topic for such talk and a warning, about the content in the title. Then it is in one place and not every where in the forum. And the it could be kept in check a little easer. As far as every where else, as stated above that is a real tricky subject. Yes stamp collecting is a world wide group with different cultures, beliefs and different way's of life. Yes I would agree if it is on a stamp it should be fair game but need a warning. But also as stated above what needs a warning and what does not is now a culture way of looking at it. So we are complete circle.
With this I also would propose:
1) a site of known non stamp or questionable matter. 2) a warning if one feels it is in question. 3) leave if it is. 4) report it if it does cross the line. 5) the one posting would need to take into consideration that what one is posting could be harmfull to others, that is including age, sex, religion, ect 6) and even with the best plans things will get astray. That will come to Mod's and admin level of moving or deleting.
That is my two cents.
We do need to think of other, not to offend them or be offended by them.
and them is all of us, |

| I did not mean to offend anybody with what I posted but I had gotten caught up in just one of these types of questions, and that was a avatar one was using. |

| So sorry Bear I was not specific. Not here, it was another forum that it happened. It opened my eyes even more to what could hurt one vs another. |

| Bear, other than the "tasteful pic/stamp thing" I'm a little unclear on the parameters of posting perhaps? Do you mean to make a post longer? More content per post? |

| this conversation is in relation to images of stamps that are of what some may consider "Adult" content.
Nudity, war, death, etc...
as for your posts as you can tell i am not entirely opposed to "oh nice job" and such short posts as long as its not ALL you post...
for example we had a member briefly who came in and posted "cool" on 26 threads regardless of topic and then started posting sales in the market place and TONS of redirects to other places.
this is obviously not acceptable .. _________________ Happy Stamping!! Bear |

| What triggered this thread, Krash, was I posted in the Topical Collections section some scans of my topical collection of nudes. While the scans were of stamps and in some cases CTOs I had failed to dutifully post a fair warning of nudity within the content of the thread - an oversight on my part. After some discussion it was essentially determined that if it's on a stamp it's reasonably fair game and as a common courtesy to notify board users of such understanding that though a reasonably small group we are multicultural in makeup.
My misstep was assuming that because the stamps depicted the works of legitimate artists - the full collection to date includes the works of Michelangelo, Picasso, Cezzane, Renoir, Rubens and on through to more contemporary artists such as Rolf Armstrong and Fritz Willis - that they would be de facto acceptable.
The particular topical collection is, to me, a study in both art and form and presenting such across a wide swath of time using the works of easily recognizable and well known artists. As a husband, father of three daughters and grandfather to two granddaughters I couldn't morally intentionally portray women in a less than flattering light as this would be in direct contradiction to all I've taught my daughters and granddaughters over the last three and a half decades.
The collection is an effort on my part to combine two things that have and continue to bring joy into my life - art and philately. The collection includes issues that include the nude male form as well - problem is/was I haven't created pages as of yet that included such.
In the end to me the collector it's really all about the art. Sorry for being so long winded here but this is the first time I've stated my case on the matter as I'd pretty much stayed quiet on this thread but also using it to gauge the sensibilities of the users here on StampBears whom I've come to very much enjoy both sharing with and enjoying what they have to share as well.
Much to my disappointment nature did not see fit to bestow upon me the gift of artistry in the form of drawing, painting, sketching or anything of the sort. Alas, I've had to find my artist expression through photography. While the subject of whether or not photography is art is debatable I do use it as my own personal form of expression.
Should you care to look you can see some of my photography on my Flickr stream.
FYI, there is NO nudity in my photography and as I've actually had to explain to people before, "I'm a photographer not a pornographer". You wouldn't believe what some people have wanted photographs of... it's just not me to go there.
