Greetings Mr. Krash101
.
My mind is coming up blank, but somewhere in the dark recesses there is an image of a stamp company advertizement depicting the "Broken Hat" variety. If I remember it right, when I was a youngster, it was plastered all over . . . on the inside of matchbook covers, the back of comic books, Boys' Life magazine, the weekly TV Guide, and most Sunday morning news papers. Those "send-in-NOW!!!" ads were everywhere. It was always hyped as a "mistake" issued by the Post Office and almost as unique as the inverted Jenny.
.
That makes me believe that it was Harris, or Mystic, or Kenmore, or maybe all three that created the vast disappearance of 231c for the newer collectors.
.
Respectfully,

Gordon Lee

Gordon, I remember the matchbooks and I believe your right about it being mystic and kenmore. I actually just got an old U.S. stamp album with a half dozen of the 2¢ Columbian but no broken hat variety yet. I'll keep looking. They are cheap to buy like 30¢ - 40¢.

I checked my 2-cent Colombians on yesterday... no luck on the broken hat.
