I'm blessed far beyond what I deserve, Krash... best thing is that after nearly 16 years we actually still like each other!

I actually know what you mean! I, too am very fortunate to have a wonderful Wife and daughter and have been married over 10 years and that's no small accomplishment either as you know! She is interested in my stamp collection and has a small one of her own, mostly World Wide and topical- Reptiles and chickens of all things! She recently bought me a "high dollar" stamp and totally amazed me on her attention to detail. Centering, light cancellation, and of course the condition! Right right Scott number of the one I needed too (yeah that always helps right?)! She's a keeper! Here is the stamp (scanned next to one of my Plate Proofs- Scott #35)

Let us not forget the Trans-Mississippi issues! Is an 1894 issue but fits well here. I still need a few yet.

Chickens? Really? That's a new one on me but seeing as I know of no one else collecting such I'll have to keep my eye peeled for her.

Greetings Fellow Boarders . Chickens on stamps sounds like fun topical. I wonder how much scratching around one needs to do before finding a bunch of those stamps. . I, however, tend to strive for the more obscure topicals. When I finally acquired Scott 290 (Hardships of Emigration) I completed my search for a complete set of topical "Family Standing Over a Dead Horse on American Stamps" collection. . [img] [/img] US 290 (Dead Horse) . I love stamp collecting. It really puts things into perspective. . Gordon Lee

A little something I did...
I laid my hands on one each of the 2-cent issue (fairly common) and the 2-cent "broken hat" variety. I then created an album page with spaces for the two stamps, an exploded (blown up) view of the plate variety (i.e. the broken hat) and a brief write up on the variation and placed the page behind the album page with all my other Colombian stamps. Check your 2-cent issues and if you have a dozen or more of them you likely have the broken hat variety. |

I'll have to check mine... I've got a dozen or so and odds are there should be at least one broken hat in there somewhere... should be.

Greetings Fellow Boarders . I'm beginning to wondering how available those broken hats varieties really are? I just looked at the dozen of the two cent Columbians in my duplicate cache and zero of them have a chip in the hat. . I'm starting to think that thirty years ago every amateur stamp collector scarfed those easy to find little babies up and stuck them away in their stamp album. (Glad I got mine when I did.) . Respectfully, Gordon Lee
