| When Hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans and eventually led to the failure of the levees that protected New Orleans from flooding one of the worst hit spots was the location of the Six Flags New Orleans. For reasons I can't understand or explain the amusement park was effectively built in a bowl.
Six Flags was badly flooded after being battered by 135 mile per hour winds. Needless to say the amusement park was ravaged and remains closed to this day.
It's an incredibly creepy place to roam about so I offer you a few of the photographs I've taken on my two visits to abandoned Six Flags.

| Greetings Mr. bengalpaws . Down right creepy and eerie pictures. . Just curious, under what circumstances allow you access to an abandon amusement park? Have you ever heard of "Wild-world Eleanor?" . Respectfully,

| I've not heard of "Wild-World Eleanor".... enlighten me if you would, sir.
As for gaining entrance to Six Flags... I'll be point blank, Gordon, I was trespassing. When I indulge myself with my photographic hobby one of my favorite things is abandoned places which often leads to outright trespassing.
I've never been caught but when I go I always carry a small photo album of my abandoned places work to show this is just something I do and most importantly I take the same approach in urban areas as I do in nature....
Leave only footprints, kill only time, take only pictures.
I don't vandalize or take anything from the sites... I leave a few footprints in the dust but otherwise leave places I visit untouched.
You may also find this set interesting, Mr. Gordon... Abandoned Dixie Beer Brewery. |

| Greetings Mr. bengalpaws . For a while I collected (besides stamps) old, unusual, off-the-wall, seldom told ghost stories like the ones that were told in family parlors before the advent of tee-vees and radios. I started a long-winded topic of Wild World Eleanor. The park in question is the Six Flags Over America park in Maryland. I use to own a Maryland mansion a few miles from Six Flags when I lived out that-a-way before my darling young bride and I plopped down our deluxe, custom-made, double-wide here in Texass. . The Dixie Beer photos are hypnotizing. They are almost like paintings. Did you digitly altrer the colors, Ron? Regardless, they are spooky. . I hope when you go on these excursions you have your life insurance paid up. It looks like it could be dangerous. . Respectfully,
Gordon Lee |

| Just saw this thread and enjoyed your pics of the old Six Flags. Having living in New Orleans most of my life, I never did go. Could never understand why they put an amusement park in the middle of the hood. Now they are talking about tearing it down, and putting an outlet mall there. I guess they forgot about the mall that was there years ago.
Thanks for sharing those pics. |
